Catania is the economic center of Sicily. Located halfway between Messina and Siracusa, and at the foot of the Etna Volcano, Catania is one of the most popular stops for tourists exploring Sicily. Many ancient monuments from the Roman and Baroque ages, as well as many historical churches lend this city a rich atmosphere that must be experienced by any self-respecting tourist.

Second place to visit while exploring Sicily: Aeolian Islands

This cluster of islands lies just outside of Sicily in the Tyrrhenian sea. These islands are extremely popular in the summer. If you want to take advantage of the beaches, stop here during the summer. If you want to avoid the crowds, go here during the winter when they aren’t as crowded. While you’re here, make sure to check out the famous Fango baths.
