Shopping in Sicily is one of the joys of visiting Italy. Indeed, shopping opportunities in Sicily are seemingly endless!

If you’re planning on shopping in Sicily during your vacation, then you will want to read this article. In this article, we’ll look at three of the things that you should take note of. Specifically, we’ll talk about shopping for ceramics, wine & food, and Sicilian “pupi.”

If you’re from the United States, it’s important to realize that most Sicilian shops hold unusual store hours. Most Sicilian shops are closed from 1 to 4 pm. After 4 pm, these shops open again for four hours, and then close by 8 pm.

1. Sicilian Ceramics

One of the most common items you will see throughout Sicilian stores are the Ceramics. Italy is well known for its ceramics, and Sicily is the leader of the Italian ceramic market. If you are planning a plane ride back home, you probably won’t be able to purchase something big, but you shouldn’t have a problem purchasing a small(ish) Sicilian ceramic vase!

2. Sicilian Wine & Food

Sicilians, as well as those from the mainland of Italy are well known for their passion for authentic Italian cuisine. This will be very evident throughout the stores and shops of Sicily. Make sure to purchase a few bottles of Italian wine and cheese.

3. Sicilian “Pupi”

This is an odd one, because it’s not something that you’d initially associate with Sicily. However, once you start shopping in Sicily, you’ll notice these beautiful puppets, or “pupi.” The crafting of these large, heavy puppets is considered an art by the Sicilians, and a pupi created by a famous craftsman can be very expensive.

The best thing for you to do when shopping in Sicily is simply to browse. Keep your eye out for the three things mentioned in this article, but don’t worry! You’ll run out of spending money before you run out of things to buy!
